Dual Controls

Here You Will Find Out About Ireland's Best Selling "FAST Dual Controls" With The Removable Pedal Feature, When Not in Use?

Consider FAST Dual Controls  as an investment. - You will be able to change your training vehicle many times without ever having to change these Universal Dual Controls.- The Right Choice for ADI's!  - Below you will find general information on FAST Cable Dual Controls

Dual Controls - What's the Difference  "Rod Vs Cable"
The purchase and fitting of car dual controls to a driver training vehicle can be a major expense for ADI's and should be looked at as a long term investment, not a throw away accessory, so let’s look at the difference between the two main types of controls.Rod operated Dual Controls are Vehicle-Specific Design and therefore have to be considered ‘Disposable’ on sale of the vehicle. Even changing for the same model of vehicle may not fit and will leave the ADI having to re -purchase again.

This is wasteful of your hard-earned cash (the charge for supply and fit of some vehicle specific dual controls could be as expensive as €850 and an environmentally unfriendly option when compared to our universal cable systems at €250 + vat (however subject to change without notice) for a dual brake and clutch set. FAST dual control systems offers significant savings over "vehicle-specific controls" The greatest advantage of using the cable system is that it can be fitted to any vehicle model, time and time again. Contact us after purchase for fitting agents.

D
utch Made FAT – Universal Controls are marketed in Ireland as "FAST Dual Controls" are manufactured to the highest quality, have the coveted European TUV certification and are sold world-wide. FAT-DC, have been producing this control system for over 20 years and have a wealth of experience in their use for left and right hand drive vehicles.  FAST dual controls use Bowden cables which have a nylon lining to prevent metal-to-metal contact (the cause of cable failure). The cables are tested to a breaking strain of 450Kg (5KN) - It would take an elephant to generate that pressure! As with all cable controls, the system needs to be correctly installed and maintained to ensure trouble-free operation. It is recommended that cables are checked regularly and that they are replaced when the system is transferred to a new vehicle.

How They Work:
FAST cable controls use a pulley system to connect the control unit to the driver’s side pedals. The clutch features a double pulley system on the control unit to gain maximum pedal travel. The cables pass through a pulley mounted to the vehicle bulkhead on the driver side and are attached to the vehicle controls with a pedal clamp. Uniquely, the control system pedals can be removed simply and easily by lifting them from the support brackets on the control unit – there are no locking pins or nuts to loosen! Ideal for times when you are not giving tuition.

Our Dual Controls
Can be adapted to various configurations including automatic transmission (single wide pedal) and can be supplied with a dual accelerator. Although widely used in Europe and elsewhere, Ireland is exceptional in not making use of dual accelerator pedals.
The reason for this is that dual accelerator controls MUST be removed from vehicles used for Irish driving tests. The FAST control accelerator linkage and pedal are designed for swift and easy removal prior to test so there is no good reason why instructors shouldn’t have this option. Those considering this option are advised that there is an additional cost for these and need to be ordered

Are They Suitable For All Vehicles?
The FAST dual control system is made to fit any vehicle that has a brake, clutch and accelerator pedal. With small diameter and flexibility of the cables means that they can be fitted in even the most compact car. Again, because of this flexibility the control system is well suited for installation in vehicles where vehicle specific designs can impede the fitting of other adaptions. For larger vehicles (MPV, jeep, bus or truck) you may use longer cables.
Can I Fit These Controls Myself?
In short the answer could be yes, if you are mechanically minded and can follow instructions. However, We recommend "Experienced and Accredited Fitters" as in most modern vehicles there is a "double skin" floor with wires and pipes running behind so much caution and know-how is required. Remember correct fitting of your new dual controls could save your life!  In addition fitting them yourself or having them fitted by a non accredited fitter may cause damage to your vehicle. You should also note that ill fitting dual controls may "may end up costing you money in the long run, with cables fraying etc.," and having to be replaced over time. Please see Approved Suppliers and Fitters of Fast Dual Control within this Product Information Section

Dual Control Certification
It should be noted by ADI's that it is a condition set by the RDA ADI unit to insurance companies that you have dual controls certified and that they are in fact fitted to a particular tuition vehicle (indexed) and that they are working properly. Driver Education Supplies provides an inspection and check for self fitters. This test is “on road” so an appointment is advised, please contact us to arrange an appointment. The cost of this is minimal at €10 and after the vehicle check, a certificate will be issued to you with test results. This is then given to your insurance company

Dual Control Certification for Self Fitters
You are required for insurance purposes to have your Dual Controls certified. That is, an approved fitter to issue you with a letter of certification on the specific indexed vehicle. We at Driver Education Supplies recommend that customers satisfy themselves that the businesses listed and the services they offer are suited to their own requirements before entering into any contract with them to have dual controls fitted, removed or refitted to their tuition vehicles. Installation instructions and guidance for use of FAST Dual Controls are available at €4.99. These instructions are supplied free of charge when you order a new set of FAST.

FAST Dual Control Brake and Clutch Kit for Cars.
The complete Dual Control kit includes fitting instructions for a manual car. If the control is to be fitted to a large vehicle you will need extra length cables which can be selected as an option from the drop down menu. Note that some Fords and vehicles with U-section pedal arms may require an adapter (T-clamp) available at extra cost.

We can even supply you with "as an added extra" an Accelerator Pedal to fit along side your Brake & Clutch, or if you are teaching an Automatic set of Dual Controls, A Single Larger Brake Pedal !   Note ( whereby it is legal to fit an accelerator, it should be removed for RSA driving test purposes, this is undertaken simply and quickly)
